There were wins for Denmark and Germany at the first Challenge Bahrain last weekend, despite Kona king Sebastian Kienle crashing out.

Helle Frederiksen (DEN) and Michael Raelert (GER) both put in commanding races to clinch the biggest slice of a whopping $500k prize purse.

Among the Brits, Rachel Joyce placed highest with silver in the women’s race, and Jodie Swallow took bronze. Jodie Stimpson gave a very good account of herself on her middle distance debut, taking eighth place (and telling 220 afterwards that it was a “good hit out before Christmas”. Tim Don was the highest placing British male, finishing fourth.

There was a strong finish also for the Crown Prince of Bahrain (and enthusiastic triathlete), Prince Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who completed the course in 4:21:11 to finish fourth in the M25-29 category. Full results here.
