One Step Beyond Promotions has launched a women’s-only triathlon in partnership with Cancer Research on Saturday September 15 2012. The event which will be held at Rother Valley Country Park, South Yorkshire, and will be part of the Rother Valley Triathlon Festival.

Entrants will face a 200m open-water swim, 10km bike and 4km run, all all held within the beautiful grounds of the Country Park.

One Step Beyond Director Teresa Hamilton says, “We are delighted that Cancer Research UK has decided to become the headline partner of our Women’s Only event. It’s been fantastic working with the charity this year and we hope that lots of women take up the challenge.”

To assist the women in their preparation, once entered, they will also be invited to attend a free training session held at the venue on September 1, where they’ll have the opportunity to talk to and practice with British Triathlon qualified coaches at the venue.

2012 Rother Valley Women’s Triathlon participant Emma Green knows only too well the importance of the work of Cancer Research UK. In 2007, Emma lost her father to leukaemia, having battled with the illness for three years.

Emma, who at the time couldn’t even run to the corner shop, knew that she wanted to do something to raise awareness of this terrible disease, so took part in her first Race for Life in Rotherham. Now Emma is taking on her next challenge, the Rother Valley Women’s Triathlon, despite her own admission that she “can’t ride a bike or do the front crawl”, and is currently being coached in both.

Emma is an inspiration to all women who believe that a triathlon is something just out of their reach. Emma says “I always believe you should have a goal in life and that life is not a dress rehearsal” and we wish her all the best with her challenge.
