British Triathlon is pleased to announce the 2013 British Triathlon Inter Regional Championships are set to take place on Saturday 31 August at London 2012 Olympic venue, Eton Dorney.
The much anticipated event will see young triathletes from triathlonscotland, Welsh Triathlon and each of the Triathlon England regions compete not only for individual honours but also for the coveted team title.
This year’s event will increase the number of Tri Star 2 athletes racing per region with three boys and three girls being able to compete. The same number of athletes will be able to compete in the Tri Star 3 category, creating a team of 12 athletes in total.
The 2013 event will not include a youth category following recommendations in the 2011 British Triathlon Competition Review; however, Eton Dorney will also host an elite youth and junior race, which will be included in the 2013 British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series.
The junior race will also double an ETU Junior European Cup event, bringing Europe’s top junior athletes over to Great Britain in advance of the ITU Junior Triathlon World Championships set to take place in London as part of the 2013 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in September.
Sophie Coldwell was looking forward to the event commenting: “It’s great to see this event will include a European Cup, it really helps us as athletes get that important race practice against an international field, especially in advance of the World Championships on home soil later in the year.”
Ian Braid, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events added: “The 2013 British Triathlon Inter Regional Championships will be more exciting than ever for our Home Nations. The athletes and their supporters will be able see at first hand the next stage in their development with the inclusion of elite youth and junior races in the programme – the latter holding ETU Junior European Cup status. It will be a great day at Eton Dorney.”
Entry details will be posted on www.britishtriathlon.org in the New Year.
