British age-groupers shine in Strobl

Austrians take 21 medals at European Cross Triathlon Championships

Austrian and German athletes took most of the medals at the first European Cross Triathlon Championships in Strobl am Wolfgangsee, Austria last weekend – although among the age-group races there was some British success.

In the elite women's competition, reigning German champion Kathrin Muller was first past the line in 1:43:18, while Jan Celustka (CZE) took the men's title with a time of 1:30:30.

Home favourite Martin Falch retained his European Cross Triathlon Championship title in the Paratriathlon Tri-5 category, finishing in 1:02:52.

In the age-group races, Britain's Claire Hodgkiss and Natalie Smith won bronze in the 25-29 and 30-34 categories respectively, while Nicholas Farnell took silver in the 55-59 men's category.
