Having won the first Brighton Marina based event way back in 1990, Trace Harris benefited from his local knowledge to power away from the field on the bike to win this year’s event.
Sporting his trademark pink aero crash hat, the 49-year-old vet matched his best ever bike times, hopefully providing inspiration to all the other ageing triathletes out there.
Trace attributes his good form to hours spent on the time trial bike, which was his choice of mount despite the very hilly and technical nature of the course. An impressive run split from second place former runner Tom Hopkins wasn’t enough to get close to closing the gap.
The women’s winner, Anita Jones. came in with a time of 2.02.37.
