Loads of great features, but non-ANT+ is a big black mark...

Polar RCX5 GPS

With Polar having just released their first integrated GPS-HRM (the RC3), the days of armband-mounted GPS sensors could be numbered.

That said, the RCX5 has plenty of great features and its chest strap is one of the comfiest on the market. Satellite acquisition is quick and reliable; syncing from HR strap and arm-mounted GPS to the wrist unit is glitch free; and downloading training data is seamless.

You can switch from four sport profiles mid-workout, assign custom HR zones and the four fully customisable data fields are clear. It’ll talk with Polar’s WIND speed/cadence sensors on the bike, so it can be used on the turbo, too.

Oddly it won’t display power from their Look Keo pedals or work with other power meters as it isn’t ANT compatible. Both the unit and chest strap are waterproof so you can monitor heart rate in the pool.
