Sanyo Xacti WH1

Sanyo’s new waterproof digital camera/camcorder has been designed to appeal to surfers and skiers, and it’s easy to see why.

It has the highest possible IEC waterproof rating – IPX8 – and works down to a depth of three metres. It also boasts a 30x optical zoom and records 1280×720 HD video at 30 frames per second. Small, compact and robust, it’s ideal for filming swim sessions and monitoring your swim technique.

The battery life is impressive (three hours 20 minutes), but the tiny size of the included internal memory meant I could only shoot two minutes of footage. There’s an external SD memory card slot, which you’ll certainly need, but no memory card supplied.

The underwater footage we shot turned out precise and clear, while the unit itself was 100% waterproof, meaning you won’t need to buy an extra case. View my Scorsese moment at www.youtube.com/user/swimfortri.
