Review: Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX trail shoes

Salomon is synonymous with off-road durability and that heritage echoes with every rugged stride of these trail shoes.

The 434g weight is down to the myriad of technologies including Gore-Tex’s ‘Extended Comfort Footwear’ to keep water out and dual-density EVA midsoles for greater comfort.

Some will appreciate total cushioning; others, like us, prefer a more tactile feel between them and the cross-terrain. The fact they’re marketed at running and fast hiking explains their weight, so we’d recommend these for longer, slower efforts rather than short, sharp sessions.

Foot stability’s high thanks to the cradling ‘Sensifit’ system – as is entry and exit due to the Quicklace system. Neat touches like a protective rubber toecap and a debris-deflecting gusseted tongue complete a shoe that’d see you through to the next ice age.
