Inov-8 Terraultra G 260 run shoe review

Dassi gained plenty of attention in 2017 with their Interceptor bike, infused with graphene that’s said to be 200 times stronger than steel yet lighter than paper. And now trail innovators Inov-8 are in on the act, adding graphene (essentially a one atom thick sheet) to the outsoles of their new G-Series range to produce, according to Uni of Manchester research, 50% more toughness, elasticity and durability than their previous outsoles.

The TerraUltra G 260 are designed for running long distances on hard, dry and rocky surfaces. Our test period consisted of exactly that, and they instantly felt comfy, with a roomy toe box and wide fit (narrow-footed athletes should take note). What’s also evident is the zero-drop and slender 9mm stack height long associated with Inov-8, and the shoes do lack insole cushioning. While this makes for an exhilarating run, there’s a firmness underneath the arch area in particular.

While the graphene steals the headlines and these produce superb grip for the minor 4mm lug depth, the other noteworthy inclusion is Kevlar on the upper. This completes the durability package and also gives notable breathability. The lifespan is said to be 1,000 miles, double the usual 300-500 mile range, which makes the £140 price palatable. The result is a shoe we’d recommend anyway, and the claimed durability is a potential game-changer for the shoe industry.
