Louis Garneau Course bike helmet

You may have seen the Course on the heads of Team Europcar in last year’s Tour de France, including a polka dot version to go with the shocking King Of The Mountains onesie sported by Pierre Rolland. This is Louis Garneau’s top-of-the-range helmet, balancing ventilation with aero performance.

While it doesn’t have the blocked intakes of other dedicated aero road offerings, it has done the tunnel time. And – by reducing frontal area and removing excess material from the rear – Louis Garneau reckon it’s pretty slippery. Although fairly heavy at 293g for a medium, there’s no sense of bulkiness on your head.

It looks good too, cutting a sleek and stylish profile. The Spiderlock Pro II cradle is comfortable, offers both a good range and positive adjustment, and, for safety at night, the included Spiderlock Vision light that attaches to the dial is a clever touch. The 31 vents certainly keep you cool, and although they compromise aerodynamics more than a smooth shell, in hot conditions these losses would easily be outweighed by not overheating.
