C Originals SV888

C Originals might be a new name in the helmet market, but the company behind it, Cooo Sports, have had plenty of practice making protective headgear for cyclists.

They’ve been constructing crash hats for other brands for over 20 years and are now launching their own range of lids and eyewear in the UK.

The SV888 heads up the road range and boasts the aggressive looks typical of a performance lid, along with carbon-fibre inserts and a dial-operated rear retention cradle. The S/M-sized (54-58cm) test sample tipped the 220 scales at 225g and offers an extremely close yet comfortable fit.

Wind the retention cradle in and it sits snugly and completely wobble-free on your head. Ventilation is good, the brow doesn’t intrude on your field of vision and the pads remain plush even when soaked with sweat.

Threading the rear straps through the retention cradle would stop them getting tangled up, but that’s a minor fault on what is a very decent helmet.
