Review: Shimano TR60 SPD-SL triathlon bike shoes
Coming in just under the £200 mark makes these tri-specific bike shoes a fairly hefty spend, but their performance and features go a long way towards justifying the price tag.
Tipping the scales at 294g for a European size 45 makes them competitively light while their carbon fibre composite soles are super-stiff and deliver excellent power transfer. For transition, the heel loops are plenty big enough and easy to grab on the fly.
Best of all, there’s a wide gap for foot entry, so there’s no need to look down at your shoes when putting them on and less potential for an embarrassing T1 tumble.
The inners are super-soft for sock-free riding, there are decent-sized drainage holes and, in the cool spring conditions we tested in, the superb ventilation from mesh uppers and toe intakes is almost too good. Our only quibble is that the heel and toe bumpers aren’t replaceable, but they do seem fairly robust.
