Pearl Izumi Tri Fly IV Carbon

Developed with US Ironman Legend Tim DeBoom, these shoes from Pearl Izumi come with high expectations.

On the scales, they certainly don't disappoint, weighing in at a svelte 295g for a UK 10. Slipping them on, they're wonderfully comfortable in bare feet and the two straps make finding your perfect fit easy. They ride fantastically well with no hint of wasted effort through flex and no hotspots developing.

Interestingly for triathlon cycling shoes, they open towards the crank arms. The system works briliantly, though, and because the tab of the main strap hangs proud on the outside of the shoe, it's easy to locate and use without looking down. Combined with a large heel loop, these are definitely amongst the most transition-friendly shoes, and a large replaceable heel bumper scores more transition points.

Drainage and ventilation are spot on, combining a mesh upper with three large drainage holes in the sole.
