This month it’s the turn of Leamington Spa-based BikeDynamics to don the multisporting Santa Claus suit. And the goodies on offer are two top-of-the-range bike fitting services, plus summary DVD, worth £200 each.

The prize includes BikeDynamics’ Dynamic Fit, Shoe and Cleats, and Explore services. Dynamic Fit starts by measuring the customers’ set-up, and monitoring heart rate, power and cadence on a turbo trainer. Motion capture is then used to measure knee angle at maximum extension and minimum flexion; hip-and-torso and torso-to-upper-arm angles; lateral knee displacement around complete pedal stroke; and the extent of ‘ankling’ (changing the angle of the foot during the pedal stroke).

For Shoe and Cleats, the team use a cleat-positioning jig to place cleats in correct fore/aft and rotational positions. The service also measures forefoot angles and uses a foot scanner to establish arch type. Video motion capture then tracks knee position at preferred cadence with differing pedal loads, and uses knee movement, forefoot angles and arch type to recommend suitable wedges and insoles to identify any leg length irregularity.

Explore is an opportunity for the customer to experiment with their position with direct feedback from the available measurements.
