SiS’s Super Hydro offering is a relatively low carbohydrate (20g), high sodium (700mg) drink. As a result, when mixed as directed, it doesn’t feel too heavy on the stomach, with the carbohydrate concentration equating to 2%, compared to typical isotonic sports drinks at 6%.
Despite this, Super Hydro is surprisingly sweet and you’d be forgiven for assuming that it should have more of an energy focus. The fact is that if you’re out on a long session (1hr plus) then you’re probably going to need an extra supplement of carbohydrate to ensure glycogen stores are maintained.
As suggested on the packet, Super Hydro is useful in the heat, or if you’re a particularly salty sweater. If not, then this is probably not the drink you should be using for a light session down at the gym every day, due to its relatively high sodium content and the health risks associated with too much sodium ingestion, such as high blood pressure and heart disease.
