Nike, Apple to ‘expand the whole digital frontier’ for wearable tech

Run shoe CEO hints at reviving Nike+ partnership for ‘stealthy, stylish’ devices

Nike’s CEO has hinted that his company is working with Apple to develop stealthier, more stylish devices for athletes, saying wearable tech has a bright future.

“As I look ahead at what’s possible between Nike and Apple, two amazing brands, technologically we can do things together that we couldn’t do independently,” said Mark Parker in an interview with Bloomberg.

“So yeah thats part of our plan, to expand the whole digital frontier in terms of wearables, and go from tens of millions of users to hundreds of millions.”

Parker believes that the form these gadgets take will be “critical” if Nike is to hit that target, adding: "I think what you'll see in the future are things that are more stealth, more integrated, more stylish, and more functional.”

The two companies maintain strong ties – Nike’s CEO previously worked with Apple founder Steve Jobs on Nike+, and Apple’s current CEO Tim Cook sits on the Nike board.

The Nike exec wouldn’t be drawn on what form the new devices might take, but but does say that people want to get more information in a simple, user-friendly way. “This isn’t a trend, its a movement, it’s a cultural shift really, in a way,” he adds.
