ITU sets 2015 World Cup schedule

Olympic qualification points up for grabs next year, with 2015 season to kick off in Mooloolaba on 14 March

With just a few days to go until the final ITU World Cup race of the 2014 season in South Korea, the ITU has revealed the 2015 schedule for its World Cup races, with valuable Olympic qualification points up for grabs.

The 2015 ITU World Cup calendar runs as follows:

- March 14-15: Mooloolaba, Australia (sprint distance)
- March 21-22: New Plymouth, New Zealand (sprint distance)
- May 9-10: Chengdu, China (standard distance)
- June 13-14: Huatulco, Mexico (sprint distance)
- August 8-9: Tiszaujvaros, Hungary (sprint distance)
- September 12-13: Montreal, Canada (sprint distance)
- October 3-4: Cozumel, Mexico (sprint distance)
- October 17-18: Alanya, Turkey (standard distance)
- October 24-25: Tongyeong, South Korea (standard distance)

Montreal makes its debut on the World Cup calendar next, while Tiszaujvaros will serve as the first European World Cup and again returns its semi-final/final format as it celebrates its 19th year on the ITU calendar. The ITU says that up to three additional events could be added to the calendar in coming weeks. 

ITU president Marisol Casado said: “Not only do the ITU World Cup races create an important bridge to elite success for athletes, they also provide the opportunity to gain Olympic qualification points. The races are an incredibly important part of the 2015 calendar.”
