Kona 2018: How all the emotion and action was captured on social media

He's done it! Patrick Lange and Daniela Ryf may have taken the Kona 2018 crowns but the prize for sheer determination, guts and mental resilience has to go Tim Don for his remarkable comeback following his horrific and near fatal accident last year, which resulted in a fractured neck.

If winning, and setting a new course world record, wasn't enough Patrick Lange also used the occasion to propose to his girlfriend. She said yes...thankfully

Nothing could stop Daniela Ryf taking a fourth world title, not even a jellyfish sting. Can she make it five in a row next year and is she the greatest ever?

Ironman World Champion!πŸ™ŒπŸ˜† . The craziest race of my life. After being stung by a jellyfish under my armpits 2mins before the start my most painful 3.8k followed. Knowing giving up was not an option I made it out of the water and found some superpower on the bike and run. 🚴‍♀️πŸ’₯ The bike of my career. Still can‘t believe it. #Worldchampion #NeverEverGiveUp .πŸ“·: @jamesmitchell5 / @activeimages

It wasn't to be for Olympian Javier Gomez but he will be back...

Finished my first @ironmantri World Championships in 11th place. Definitely not what I was hoping for, so quite disappointed. A short and simple analysis of the race: I rode harder than I should, to keep up with the group I was in and paid it on the run... big time! I want to thank everyone for the amazing support, sorry I couldn’t do a better race... Lots of things learnt, at least. Will keep working hard to do it better next time. And last, but not least, congrats to the guys at the front for their outstanding performance, especially @patricklange1.

Lucy Charles not only came second, but also broke the swim record and posted the second fastest Kona time ever - could 2019 be her year?
