Chrissie W tackles 'daftest' challenge

Ironman champ and pals take on Three Peaks with a twist

In what may be her toughest race yet, Chrissie Wellington is aiming to take on the Three Peaks Challenge with a big twist this May.

Dubbed the '4321 Challenge', Chrissie and her three fellow Challengers are aiming to run up the UK's three highest mountains (Scafell Pike, Snowden and Ben Nevis) in 48 hours – relying on bikes to travel between them.

The challenge will involve 43km of running and 724km of cycling, and has been organised to raise money for two charities – the Rainbow Trust, which supports the families of terminally ill children in the UK, and 'JOLE RIDER', which delivers bikes to African schoolchildren.

“It’s going to be one of the hardest things I have ever done, but hopefully the most gratifying and definitely the most fun," said Chrissie. "It’s a fantastic opportunity to raise money for two hugely worthwhile causes whilst also ticking my masochistic box!"

Her fellow Challengers are all Bristol-based age-groupers: Alex Prince, Marcus Mumford (no, not the one from Mumford and Sons) and Matt Edwards. "This is going to be the daftest thing any of us have done," said Matt. "It’s going to hurt, it’s going to be a rollercoaster, it’s going to be amazing."

The team will start their mountain adventure in the morning of 2 May at the bottom of Snowden, and should finish two days later at the foot of Ben Nevis. To find out more about the challenge and follow their progress, head to

Go Chrissie go

Will anybody be able to keep up with Chrissie Wellington?

Great Challenge .

Done Scafell and Nevis myself.

It is one big challenge to do Snowden as well in the time scale they're got.

Best of luck to Chrissie Wellington & the Lads

Something like averaging 15 kph in total, doesn't sound impossible but fatigue will be the deciding factor!  Are they going to do it as a relay team though?

I tried the three peaks last year but traffic stopped us. Ben Nevis was the easiest mountain I have walked up. Would love to do this challenge one day. Good luck to Chrissie and gang.
