Chrissie W joins groundbreaking all-women’s team for Trois Etapes

Eight-strong team will be led by pro cyclist Evelyn Stevens of Specialized-lululemon, and will tackle some of the toughest climbs in the Pyrénées next month for charity

Four-time Ironman world champion Chrissie Wellington has joined the first all-women team for this year’s Trois Etapes cycle race, taking place in the Pyrénées next month to raise funds for charity.

Chrissie’s team will be led by pro cyclist Evelyn Stevens of Specialized-lululemon, and will be aided by a support car with Director Sportif and race radios. The team will be raising funds for World Bicycle Relief, with the aim of raising money to mobilise women and girl students in rural Africa and promoting the advancement of women’s cycling around the world.

“For me, participating in the Trois Etapes is a dream come true,” said Chrissie. “The creation of the first all-women’s team at the Trois Etapes is a visible celebration of female participation, passion strength and success in cycling. Like World Bicycle Relief, I believe bicycles can be a huge force for good: creating opportunities, building bridges, empowering people and communities, and truly catalysing positive change.”

Trois Etapes is a pro-am (pro-amateur) race that will take place from 7-10 August, and will also feature other famous names including Olympian Nicole Cooke, current British TT champion Emma Pooley and 2008 Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre.
