Hi Martin

It's generally recommended that you should have an energy gel every 30mins of exercise. But is that really possible for anyone racing Olympic-distance triathlon and up, both practically and how the stomach will react? Do you suggest a substitute to gel consumption to any athletes? And is there something you'd recommend to alternate with them?

Thanks for the message. Completely agree with Dave about the sport being "pretty darn expensive" but there was an element of tongue being in cheek when Dave said he'd go back to Kona if "someone paid him a lot of money!", hence the explanation mark.

But if he did go back to Kona it'd be a huge draw for Ironman Hawaii worldwide so why shouldn't he get paid? Do you not think he's earnt it after his six World titles and incredible contribution to tri for the last 30+ years?

Sure you've seen about Chrissie's retirement ( ... on-retires) but what do you make of the news?

What's next for Chrissie?
What's her major achievement in tri (either racing or away from the tri course)?
And is there a chance will we see her again on the Kona start line (her coach Dave Scott returned after all)?

Hi Jeff

Swim/bike or aquabike events seem few and far between but Tri Spirit Events do one and I think the Little Woody organisers have one also. Sadly both events were last week though! But keep an eye on next year I guess.

Relay is an option or do a triathlon before stopping/walking on the run possibly? Might be worth asking the race organiser.

Have been asked this a few times recently (I have dodgy knees from five-a-side too) so maybe there's a gap in market!

7,000 odd entrants per day so remember where you racked your bike! Transition is inside the Excel so use an advertising hoarding as a marker. Fast and flat run is good for a PB too.

And, by past experience, don't lose your race numbers 5mins before the gun! see conversation
