hey thanks - I really hope you can - it's such a fantastic course and the atmosphere was amazing - Wrecsan Tri do a great job organising the event and really make it a great day. I'm busy planning next years races now - just need to get quicker - I think nearly everyone passed me on the bike! I couldn't believe how fast they were!!
Hope the sciatica is on the mend....

Well, I did my first Olympic at the weekend and it was GREAT!! I'm still on a real high and everyone at work (none of whom keep at all fit) is getting fed up hearing about it.
I had a really good day apart from a real issue with numb feet - anyone had similar experience?
It started about 20 mins into the bike - both feet went totally numb - tried standing, wiggling about etc etc but nothing worked. Then, off the bike and into T2 it was a nightmare, couldn't get my shoes off/on as I couldn't feel a thing and it carried on for the whole of the run! Running with numb feet is so odd! I kept looking at the floor to see what I was doing and it made the run really awkward.
Can anyone offer any clues - I'd really like to avoid a repetition of it

check out a "neti pot" - it's a great sinus rinse and works a treat for this

I FINISHED!!!! AND... I was still smiling!!!!
Well, can't tell you how excited I am - I managed to finish and did it in 3:06:07 now I know many of you would have nearly done it twice in that time - but for me it was OK. I had set a goal of under 3:15:00 so that was fine for me.
What a great race - brilliant organisiation and fab route.
I had real trouble on the bike as my feet went numb - see "numb feet" thread but other than that - what a GREAT DAY!!! Bring on the next one.

Generally I have a resting rate in the low 50's (first thing in the morning) when I'm just generally moving about from day to day it sits around 62 and if I'm really pushing it, uphill on a run I can happily get it to 183 although for a 10km run it would be about 155 on average - I'm 42 so is that all about OK?

I generally wear the same thing regardless but add a hat and gloves if it's really cold.
I find it's the wind that causes most problems - I'm usually soaked on the run anyway - either outside in cos it's peeing down or inside out cos it's so blinking hilly here that sweating is unavoidable after about two minutes - so it makes little difference really

I live in the back of beyond, so having my running/ feet looked at on computers in specialised shops is a bit of a non-starter.
Like you I live out in the stick too - west Wales for me ... great hills to train with!! But not a running shop in sight. If you ever get to the big city - or even a fairly little one, most running shops will see you there and then so it's worth bearing in mind. We try and get all these sort of things done when we go off to visit friends and family who still live near civilisation - it's worth a thought next time your on your way somewhere.
