Local Cannons is usually 28-29 which is a bit too warm for my taste. The public pool at Tavistock is usually around 32 and apparently if they lower it they get the blue-rinse brigade complaining. I've been thrown out of the over 50's session because they wouldn't believe I was that old although I must admit that I went in deliberately to wind them up. see conversation

Take some lessons. I nearly doubled my speed through the water with proper technique and practice. see conversation

There's been a horrible one doing the rounds of my office. I rarely take time off for illness but this one laid me low for 3 days and 3 weeks later I'm still bunged up and sneezing. see conversation

I'm not inclined to have anything to do with it, given the poor facilities of the last one. see conversation

And then there are the ones who think they are quick because they make such a lot of splashing, but you can overtake them swimming breastroke. Sigh. Personal endless pool, anyone? see conversation

My gym uses relatively low levels, however the people who use the pool are generally reasonably affluent adults and are pretty clean-looking. Go to a public pool some time and look at the small and probably incontinent kids, people dropping nasty sticking plasters in the water etc and I would rather have a bit more chlorine to ensure that I don't catch whatever. I use E45 lotion afterwards and it seems to deal with the itch pretty effectively. see conversation

Any recommendations? It has to cope with several different frames including different size top tubes and a Cervelo aero frame.

Squareclare, go to a good running shop. What fits me almost certainly won't fit you but a good shop will be able to look at your feet and do a quick analysis of your gait to suggest good options. see conversation
