Nike has never been a major player when it comes to swimwear, so it’s hardly surprising that when it does take the plunge, it does so by bringing some swanky, new technology to the pool.

Although Nike has had swimsuits on the market for some time now, this latest one features their Dow XLA fibre, which claims to not only be chlorine resistant (as many makes and models already are), but also provide ultimate shape retention so the suit doesn’t become baggy.

There’s no doubt about it, this is a good, slightly different-looking suit that fits well, looks stylish and has a low leg cut. The benefits of the Dow XLA fibre means the suit feels soft against the skin and it certainly copes well with chlorine.

But despite the revolutionary technology, Nike overlooked one simple trick with this suit: flatlock seams. Where the material meets at the V-shaped front of the suit, there’s a very rough seam that, after just one session, rubbed at the skin, making it sore.

It’s a shame because otherwise this is a good suit, but with this design fault it’s just too uncomfortable to wear for a serious swim session.
