A great running tool but a big spend to not cover the bike and swim

For an integrated GPS/HRM, the Timex is certainly compact but the three customisable data pages with either two or three data fields are still large enough. The chest strap is soft and syncing is flawless.

Set-up takes a bit of getting used to, but once you link to TrainingPeaks zones and session programming are a breeze. It’s rammed with run-specific features, including a reminder to tell you to eat and drink on long runs.

The GPS logs your bike speed (Timex produce an additional bike mount), while altitude data is another plus – you can even programme in interval sessions based on height gained.

Memory on the unit is limited, but with the TrainingPeaks partnership this isn’t a problem. The eight-hour battery life is disappointing but you’d only probably be using it for running.

It’s fully waterproof and, although not an all-singing multisport monitor, is a solid run choice.
