Launched this year at the Tour of Flanders, and now with a host of new colour schemes, the Giro Aeon is an incredibly light helmet. At 190g for a small and 222g for a medium, it almost feels flimsy but, in reality, it’s as rugged as Flanders itself and is fully CE certified.
Weight has been saved by making an internal roll cage from the same material that covers the helmet’s surface, effectively giving you a double hard shell. This means that less foam is used, with the knock-on effect of excellent ventilation.
In terms of fit, there are options to vary the pad thickness, and the whole thing is made extra snug by turning a small ratchet device at the back. It’s also available in a wide range of new colourways, including Rabobank and Garmin Cervélo team editions, and an ultra smart World Champion Stripes version as worn by Thor Hushovd.
