Garmin’s Vector 3 pedals were praised on these pages in their initial review … then the problems began. We and plenty of early customers began to experience strange dropouts and extreme battery drain after installing new batteries, before Garmin admitted they had a water ingress issue that arose when the battery port was exposed. They duly made new covers for later versions, and also addressed other reported issues – such as a prolonged time to wake the sensors up – via firmware updates.

The latest Vectors install like a normal pedal and, if it wasn’t for the Garmin logo, you wouldn’t know they were power pedals. At 348g a pair, the weight is impressive. They again take Look Keo-style cleats, and it takes a few seconds to pair with your GPS unit and calibrate to get going. In our accuracy tests against smart trainers and other power pedals, the Vector 3s’ numbers are within around 5% of other measurements, and the data is always consistent. We rode in torrential rain and on mixed surfaces during testing, and they were still as accurate as they were on day one. Meaning we think they’ve once again reclaimed the title as the best power meter pedals currently on the market.

Verdict: Fuss-free power pedals that look great and offer reliable data 90%
