On the whole I think races are good value for money, espeically when you look at the level of organisation required for large events, (road closures etc). There are certainly some premium big name events that seem a bit over priced, (Blenheim £70 for a sprint?) hasn't stopped me entering though!

What about the cost of getting into the sport in the first place? I spent probably over £1000 in my first year of Tri, including second hand bike at £350. By the time you've kitted yourself out and then paid for pool membership as well it makes the events themselves look very reasonable!

£1000 and the only bit of carbon I've got are the forks on my bike!

defo not! so much so it makes me a little sceptical, is the whole triathlon concept purely one big money making scheme...regardless, it's something i'm going to try, but not now, because i can't afford to buy any of the equipment just yet, hopefully i've been a good boy and Santa will drop what i need down the chimney this year.

saying that, once you've got everything you need, it could be a nice long term investment :)

Sorry, no. You will never recoup your investment unless you're building your own rig from second hand parts.

i think the commitment to racing makes you keep sight of training regularly and stops misbehavior on weekends... then making you fitter/healthier and happier along side it.

The money saved from not going out the way i used to definitely makes up for the costs i spend on races now
so being careful on race selection then yes i do think its a value for money
