Do you think it's safe to listen to music when you're training?

Think its great while training in the gym, but would probably end up getting splattered if i had the Mp3 on the road

I use an MP3 or radio when I am on the bike or running but only with one earphone plugged in - I live in rural Aberdeenshire where you need to keep one ear open for the traffic.
Like any training where you come into contact with the public - awareness of your environment is key, even if you aren't wired into your iPod !

Depends on the training i'm doing.

I always listen to music when doing weights in gym, something with a high BPM works well. I also use the ipod when out running as i'm definately a believer that listening to the right music when training can help improve performance.

I'd never use the ipod on the bike. Although I train in rural rather than urban areas I wouldn't want to take the risk of not hearing the car or lorry behind me.

As for swimming, I'm not sure the ipod would work to well in the pool!

Hey Wella - fair comments!! I have seen waterproof mp3 players on the market (swim pods??) but they are over £100. seem to get good reviews. Anyone used them yet?

Don't listen to music normally (always seem to watch the TVs in the gym), but I would consider it safe when running on the roads as long as there are pavements - I wouldn't want to do it on country roads. Never safe to cycle with music.

I tend to listen to music in the gym or while running but not on the bike. I think I scare people while i'm running though as I have a bad tendency to sing along!

I tend to listen to music while running as I'm always on the pavement or in parks.

Never had any problems (apart from getting honked at by cars when I start dancing to a good tune while waiting for pedestrian lights to change).

Would never wear one on the bike, need all your concentration for the psycic driving that London demands and need to be able to hear other traffic.
