Spoke to a swim coach today, just general chit chat.

He told me a big thing swimmers do is inhale bad air.

i.e when swimming and you lift your head to breath, because alot of people still have air in there lungs they dont always take in full lungs of air, and so they dont get enough oxygen into the blood.

This means that you tire quicker.

He told me that before you come up to take a mouthfull of air you should exhale underwater, thus when taking air its all fresh and clean.

Its not something i had thought of, just thought i would pass it on.

agree, sort of about fresh air(sort of because the layer of air just on the water is full of errr gick, chloramines etc), but lack of O2 in the lungs is not a prob as we only absorb a proportion of the oxygen in the lungs, so stale air still contains enough..which is why CPR works. But point taken fresh is best.

Of course I can eat that....I am an athlete.

do it as a drill, think about it when swimming, active exhale = easier inhale!
Try i; you'll noticethe difference.

ITC rules( well, at least WE think so!).
