no i don't

i found when i did that my technique was poor and that i was running slower times, also my traffic awareness was reduced so i didn't feel as confident crossing junctions etc...

Any guidance on earphones?

Milhouse - I use sennheiser (mx75 i think) twist to fit headphones. They do a few running/sport directed ones that I find work well as they don't start to fly off once I'm sweating. Don't coil the cord though as this damaged mine a bit (nothing some tape didn't fix mind).

In answer to the poll - yes. Do worry a bit about racing effect (first tri races later this year - for running it's never been a problem as all my races have allowed them). I'll occasionally wear them for cycling as well, although I keep the volume so low that it's not as motivational. As for the music, own mixes of rock and dance, with some worryingly heavy hard house for speed work and power song.

Absolutely. I stopped listening when my tape player died years ago but when mp3 players came it filled the gap.

And I listen to techno, dance, and electronica. Gotta keep that beat.

I trained for this years London Marathon with music. Got myself a new shuffle, It's great. Very small and as I hadn't a clue what song would come on next it'd give a real boost when a favourite would turn up. Mainly rock but there's a smattering of dance on there as well.

Saying that, I'd never wear one for racing
I love the smell of Neoprene in the morning

I listen to Triathlon based podcasts on my long run. I though everyone did! They help stop me getting bored and it is great to feel motivated during the long miles.

I have also gone through numerous headphones that just cannot cope with the sweat and damage of running and am currently settled on the Sennheiser PMX70. These seem fine, if you can get over the loud green colour.

I usually listen to music. I find it makes training much less boring and the right song at the right time for me will keep my motivation going as well. I've even seen people in the swimming pool with waterproof iPods which they can listen to while swimming....

The exception comes when I am training with someone else, becuase talking to someone while on a run is a great way of telling if you are in the correct HR Zone.

Theone thing I have learnt is not to listen to music when running as I tend to lift the speed when the music has a faster beat and I burn out quicker. Now I listen to audio books as the narration is continuous.

I must have listened to Lance Armstrongs audio books a dozen times each and taking into accout the run for 7hrs+ I know them off by heart but still find them inspiring........

Now trying to find some Anatomy & Physiology audio books to listen too as need to get some studying done while running

Hey millhouse,

I have spent several years as a guinea pig going through about 20 sets of headphones!

I batter mine around a lot so I want ones that are fairly durable (and cheap-so easily replaced).

I've had phillips, sennheiser, sony, aiwa, panasonic: dish-style, over-ear, in-ear.

Not tried sennheiser yet-but the cords look too flimsy.

All of them have failed within the guarantee period:All of them due to cord stretch-where the wire stretches inside so there is no contact.

Currently Im on cheapo (£9.99) HMV ear-buds-and have been on same pair for 18 months now-longest lasting yet. Fat strong cable, block out wind so can have low volume. Cable is long too so can stick cable down top and round to back pocket nicely.

Only problem is the gold plating is cheap, so after a few months of sweating you have to keep cleaning the connections or you dont get any music through! The pads don't stay on either-common fault of all earbuds-but a spot of superglue sorts that.
