Decathlon do a road bike for under £300, and I think it's generally thought of as being pretty good for the money. 5yr frame warranty as well.

Not quite sure what "designed for "leisure" or more "athletic" cycling." really translates to though 9but I am sure it will do the job for a starter).

FTR I have an entry level decathlon rockrider 5.3 MTB and its excellent for what I need it for ... mainly crashing around the woods on the edge of salisbury plain.
